Re: fedora 30, change cursor new user

I pray that the Fedors Users on LQ are more like the users of other distros than you boys and girls on thue Fedora supported forums are. If they are I'll try, never, to seek beginners input here and I will not push Fedora to non-business users, the way I do Ubuntu, Mint and it's other forks.

May YHWH bless your families and rub off onto you folks.

    I assume you're using gnome?

OK, I'm assuming you're using gnome, I've just switched to it and this works for me: Open a terminal and run "gnome-tweaks", on the left select "Appearance" and then on the right use the pull down next to "Cursor".

Re: fedora 30, change cursor new user

I just remembered you mentioned "custom" cursors. So you'll need to create a custom theme for it. First, choose a theme you want to use but with different cursors, this will save recreating the whole theme, I'll use Adwaita as the "inherited" theme. Also, I'm not going to create new cursors as this is just an example, so I'll take the breeze_cursors cursors and place them over the Adwaita theme and call the mashup "Haydn":

Note, you'll need root or sudo to have permissions for this:

    Code:
    # cd /usr/share/icons
    # mkdir Haydn
    # cd Haydn
    # cp -R ../breeze_cursors/cursors .
    # echo -e "[icon Theme]\ninherits=Adwaita" > ./index.theme
    # cat index.theme
    [icon Theme]
    inherits=Adwaita
    #

You should now have "Haydn" listed in the "gnome-tweaks" tool, you may have to log out and back in though.

Red Hat/Fedora branches. What is listed is the directory bill and selected and rebooted with no change what so ever.

Thank you very much for the effort.

In KDE, you'd go in the KDE launcher (lower left corner) and select "System Settings" from "Favorites", in there select "Workplace Themes"-> "Cursors", the "Install from file..." button is there in the lower right or you can "get new cursors" to get more from the KDE repos.

Thanks Marko but I, being a Gnome lover, I'm using it just as delivered, out of the box.

Sorry, could you clarify this? The theme name is listed but choosing it doesn't make any difference to the cursors?

Re: fedora 30, change cursor new user

I am currently in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS answering because I've not resolved this issue on my Gamer. This Lenova 420 also is dual booted with F30 but until I resolve this or permanently trash Fedora. Right this moment I am bound to warn those that ask that they are better off with a less buggy distro except they lean toward being a problem solver. Out of the box it looks and operates like a jewel but it should not be costomized.

Re: fedora 30, change cursor new user

Changing the cursor works fine for me with the instructions above, if you clarify your comment perhaps we could assist in resolving why it hasn't worked for you? Also, this isn't a Fedora problem, it's a Gnome problem.
