    Flatbed Scanner Recommendations?

I'm in the market for a flatbed scanner (as opposed to an all-in-one printer) for home use with my Fedora laptop. I'm concerned about the availability of drivers, and looking for recommendations and suggestions.

Mostly, it would be used for scanning old home photos and documents, but the quality does not have to be high. "Acceptable" will do.
    Thanks.

    Re: Flatbed Scanner Recommendations?

I have an old Epson Perfection 600 flat bed. It's black and white only. It works for that but really that's for documents, faxing of b/w docs and not for photos.

I'd use this to checkout support
    http://www.sane-project.org/sane-supported-devices.html

    https://epson.com/Support/Scanners/P...SPT_B11B177011

That one even shows Linux as a supported OS on the epson page above. The best way to go is concentrate on the ones with "good" or "complete" support and that have a supported driver. For example "epson2" supports lots of scanners but it's unsupported while the snapscan driver that runs the 3490 is recently supported

Marko - thanks. The link to the sane-supported-devices was very helpful.

To the admins: this might be a useful addition to the Guides & Solutions forum (or perhaps the hardware forum) too!

    Re: Flatbed Scanner Recommendations?

    Greetings......

I've been using an Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner for several Fedora releases. The Epson drivers work great. No issues, works as it should. As I do graphics & illustration (yes, with a pencil!), it gets a regular workout. Machines I use it with are antiques. A 2007 Macbook, and a Mac i7. Might be old, however.......they run like freight trains on Fedora!

    Cheers,
    Steve

    Re: Flatbed Scanner Recommendations?

Ah! I had decent success with Epson drivers for an all-in-one printer a few years ago. I was hoping to find the same for Epson scanners too.
Thanks for the review on this, Steve.

Anytime. It's a switch to offer information, rather than ask for help.
