BTW, why don't people simply use the friendly little kitty cat?
    $ sudo cat Fedora-Cinnamon-Live-i386-29-1.2.iso > /dev/sdc

There is no speed diff and less chance of errors, I think.

I've never tried this but I will.

Meantime - shouldn't this post be marked "solved" so it doesn't go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and . . .

Thanks. Glad it worked. Please mark this thread "solved" if you have not already done so.

So - I got an error message when trying this.

    Code:
    [user@fedora-30 Fedora-Cinnamon-Live-i386-29]$ sudo cat Fedora-Cinnamon-Live-i386-29-1.2.iso > /dev/sde
    bash: /dev/sde: Permission denied
It seems your command is simplistic as per:

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...vim-works-fine

For reasons people can read about in that link you need to do:

    Code:
     $sudo bash -c 'cat Fedora-Cinnamon-Live-i386-29-1.2.iso > /dev/sdc'
There is useful information at the following link about why cat might, indeed, be 'better' than dd to write an iso file to a thumb drive. Part of this might be resolved by specifying bs=4M. Either way, it's an interesting read.

    https://www.vidarholen.net/contents/blog/?p=479

Please check this out. If you have the same results I did maybe you can alter your posts to reflect what the "cat" command needs to be.

Otherwise, if there isn't one, I think it would be interesting if you could write up a brief blurb re: why cat > dd.

Then again, people could just use the USB-writing tool in Fedora. But what fun would that be?

If there is something major here that I am missing please let me know. Thanks.
