    Some user interface improvements.

One or more frustrations I have with the forum presentations is what I would hopefully expect in an up-and-coming version.
I would like to mark topics or an adjacent click an adjacent checkbox to mark as read, those individual topics or forums.
If I am away from the forum for three or four days, I get, across all forums, up to 4 pages of new topics. Many I am unqualified to respond to, and others have already been adequately addressed.
    My option is:
Mark all forums as read and then us quicklinks.

or open, in a tab, each topic, then close them, without reading each.

It would be useful to have more granularity.

A second option that would be useful, but not essential, is to allow me to undo the "Mark All forums read."

First of all, "away from the Forum for 3 or 4 days"??? What year did that happen in?

Have you noticed that when you open a thread then leave it, the "new posts" button eliminates it from being selected again? And, as to the "undo" on Mark All Forums Read, the back button works, or selecting the day's posts is another way.

Bob, By clicking on the topic line, in some way, I would like that topic line to disappear from my list, as if I had read it.

My thought was to click on the ones of no interest to me and that fill my screen, click some forum option, and those would automatically assume the already read status. Over three days, there are at times almost 75 new topics or responses.
Now that I have a 20month grandson, my choices are "play with him" or "play with Linux". One guess which choice wins.

    Re: Some user interface improvements.

I usually like to at least read the new topics subjects in each forum. I've just been offline for 3 days and my process is:

    1) Go to the main forum page and middle click any forums with unread topics so they open in the background in new tabs.
    2) Ctrl+tab to switch to the first forum tab and scan the list of topics, middle clicking any I want to read so they open in new tabs.
    3) Use "Forum tools -> Mark forum read" to clear any I didn't read in that forum
    4) Repeatedly Ctrl+w to close the forum tabs and topic tabs after reading them
    5) Each time I get to a new forum's topic list repeat 2 - 4.
    6) Reload the main forum list to ensure I didn't miss anything or new posts haven't been added.

    Re: Some user interface improvements.

    Hi Haydn
I am spoiled with being accustomed to the yahoo mail interface. I can sort the email messages by sender, topic, oldest, newest, etc.
I can checkbox messages I don't want to read and I then hit the delete button.
I also do what you do, which is to run through the forums looking at stuff of interest to me. I follow "New Posts" daily and if there is nothing of interest, I select "Mark forums Read". If later I want to review something that I thought needed a follow up, I click on qucklinks->todays posts

Sometimes I am away for a week. When I return I know my setup list size only shows the last three days. Nevertheless, it's a lot of messages. I have at times spent 8 hour sessions catching up on topics of interest to me.

    Re: Some user interface improvements.

I doubt that we'll modify the Forum for this one request, since nobody else has jumped in to say how important it would be to them as well. That said, my suggestion would be to simply open only the sub-forums that are of interest, and scroll back to the date you last were on to see what's new.
