    Mint on a Mac Mini

I have a mid 2010 Mac Mini Core 2 Duo and 8Gb RAM. Since the last supported OS X version is High Sierra I'm getting ready to install Mint on it. OS X HS will be two versions behind come this autumn.

I'm almost ready to do this and I can't envisage any problems but I'm just sounding out in case.

    Spec sheet: https://is.gd/gXmL8A

Obviously, the EFI partition at the beginning of the disk must be kept or it won't boot and I also plan on keeping the recovery partition, just in case.

One small niggle is when I boot the Live USB stick with Mint Cinnamon 19.1, when the desktop loads there's a message box that says "Cinnamon is currently running in fallback mode, would you like to restart Cinnamon?"

I've Googled this but can't find a definite answer, I'm guessing updating a new kernel and installing the nvidia drivers will fix it.

I'd like to add that Manjaro Cinnamon boots just fine with no errors, probably because you can choose to load non-free drivers before boot.

Ubuntu LTS won't even boot to the desktop, it throws up a Nouveau error.

KDE Neon crashes at start-up and there's just a pointer on a black screen.

It's too late to start now I need the Mini up and running in the bar this evening so it looks like tomorrow or next Monday evening when I return from Osaka.
I used to miss my wife but then my aim improved.

There's a new ISO of KDE Neon, burning it now and will try to boot it!

Nope, that crashed at startup too BUT adding "nomodeset" to GRUB after "quiet splash" before booting solved that on KDE Neon, and presumably, Ubuntu Gnome too. Once the nVidia drivers are downloaded and installed it should work perfectly! Maybe I'll go with KDE, it does consume fewer resources than Cinnamon. Neon is a VERY stripped down install, with only VLC and Firefox preloaded so you can build it as you like it!
