Question Laptop WiFi Card Replacement Recommendations

    Hi,

I need to replace the Realtek RTL8821ce WiFi/BT card in my HP laptop. The problem is the driver that I was using is no longer maintained and I am tried of dealing with issues with this card every time the kernel changes. Looking for recommendations for alternatives. I have seen that the Intel ones are good, but are there other brands that I should look at like Broadcom or Qualcomm?

I am looking for one that has better support than Realtek.

    Thanks in advance.

Peruse the forum for wifi - the posts you find will largely be about the problem cards. I think I remember that Broadcom, though likely qualtiy adapters, doesn't play well with linux (or perhaps just Red Hat linux). By comparison, I don't recall seeing a ton of problems with Intels, but I've not studied the situation either. As mentioned, look around and decide. ;-)

In the meantime, perhaps someone knows definitively and can help.
    Change - the only constant.

Intel cards tend to work well--you may have to download the rpm for a specific driver, but once you do that, they usually are trouble free. I have a 7260 in an aging yoga2 laptop that works.

Re: Laptop WiFi Card Replacement Recommendations

I second the recommendation of Intel. My HP came with a cheap card that was simply terrible. I replaced it with an Intel 8265 and it performs wonderfully. The 8265 is fairly old now, so I'm not recommending that particular model. OTOH, if you find one, it might be inexpensive.
