Fedora 30 Live Install and GDM issues

    Hi all,
I'm at a loss with this one.
Doing a fresh install of Fedora 30 using a live ISO.
I'm installing on a Xen VM, so I have the ISO mounted as well as a 100G virtual disk.
First off, when starting the initial boot of the Live media, it hangs on "started GNOME Display manager"
I can get around that by booting in runlevel 3 then 'startx' from root (no password required at this point)
It goes through the normal setup prompts but I never get the 'About You' prompt to setup my user.
From there I proceed with the 'install to hard drive' link and still am never asked for any user or password setup.
The problem comes in on the first reboot, it once again hangs at "started GNOME Display manager".
If I switch to runlevel 3, I can't login at the user prompt.
If I try rescue mode to reset root, I get 'Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked'
    So...
    a) Is there a fix for the GDM problem so this thing can actually start correctly?
    b) If not that, how can I do a non-gui install and create my user and set a password for root using the Live media (I've found no other installation media available? (Maybe the server install ISO?)
    c) How can it be that rescue mode is of no use now?
    d) Should I just try a different spin and completely bypass the monstrosity that gnome has become?

First started in Linux in the mid 90's and I haven't had this much trouble installing a distro since using SUSE back in the day...

You could try running lxdm instead:

    Code:
    dnf install lxdm
    systemctl stop gdm.service
    systemctl disable gdm.service
    systemctl enable lxdm.service
    systemctl start lxdm.service

How can I do that without a root login?

    I won't say solved, but...
I just grabbed the LXDE Live ISO and installed from it.
    No problems whatsoever thus far.
The default Live ISO with Gnome has some serious issues.

Re: Fedora 30 Live Install and GDM issues

I’ve had much the same experience, beginning before the beta. Live Workstation spiked the CPU 98% when I clicked “Try Fedora” . Essentially it froze. I blamed Wayland not playing well with Nvidia, but previous releases had live images that were well-behaved on the same hardware.

Booted a Live WS image today on an AMD card and Anaconda’s internal partitioner locked up and greyed out. Gave it 3 tries and quit.
