    Purging /var/crash Files

    Hello All,

I found on a system I inherited that in /var/crash there are directories that are totaling 12gb.

    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 42 Oct 13 2018 127.0.0.1-2018-10-13-10:31:08
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 42 Oct 21 2018 127.0.0.1-2018-10-21-16:53:43
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 42 Nov 10 2018 127.0.0.1-2018-11-10-11:53:03
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 42 Feb 12 07:54 127.0.0.1-2019-02-12-07:53:35
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 42 Apr 8 09:25 127.0.0.1-2019-04-08-09:25:06
    1. Are these from ancient crashes?
    2. Can I safely delete the 2018 directories to free up space?
    3. If yes, can I simply use the rm command or is there a preferred method?

    Thanks for your advice,

    Michael

    Re: Purging /var/crash Files

I delete all var crash files. Then again Chrome install was the only one causing the issue. You need to find out what's causing the issues. Do they point to the same problem?
Yes "rm -r" would remove the files and if folders involved.

    See

You can also use abrt-gui to remove them too, or abrt-cli to do it command line

Marko, VernDog, thank you very much for confirming the methods that can be used to manage this dir. :-)
