Help me to clean my PC by BleachBit

Hi. It is now 3 year since being Fedora user, from Fedora 24 to 26 to 28

Till now I did not use BleachBit in strong way, being using it as non-root & only for following things - please see the following screenshots from above downward:

Even with above selection, I received error message "premission denied" (I think program need to be run with sudo to achieve them) - see the errors bellow:

I have slow boot time (2 minutes + 37 seconds), & I like to clean my system from old not needed files that collected over 3 years of continuous usage ...

However, I'm afraid from breaking of my system if I select items to be cleaned that should not cleaned & to run program with such selections using sudo .....

Kindly, please to help me: I would like some one expert to give me the advanced selection options (all options that THEY ARE SAFE TO SELECT & to run with sudo) without risk to break my system .....

    Hi User808
/var is owned by root. Most of the deletes within /var are for logs.
Since you have the list of logs, you could sudo rm -i /var/log/*.log and select and remove old logs.
The next time that software has to write to a log, and it is not there, most software will recreate a logfile

May be also read up on logrotate once you have cleaned matters up. You can define how far back you want to keeps logs; avoids you having to do the same manual clean up in future

We forgot to mention that we can also establish the max size of a logfile.

Re: Help me to clean my PC by BleachBit

Hi I found other nice GUI application called "Optimizer" can clean applications caches & log files without need to run it as root ffrom within terminal.

    sudo dnf install optimizer

It show me the following: 4.1 GB log files in /var/log & 1.2 GB applications caches in home/myusername/.cache

    I would like to know:

    1) is there a side effect from removing log files that can cause problems ?

    2) is removal of applications caches will result, for example, in removing my bookmarks & login creadentials that I already saved in Firefox & other applications ? Does this will result in deletions of keyring keys & PGP keys that stored on my system ?

    3) does deletions of log files & applications caches will improve my currently slow booting time ?

Instead or removing logfiles, you could zero them out.
    Sudo echo '' > logfiles.log

Re: Help me to clean my PC by BleachBit

I used Optimizer to remove ALL log files. I removed 4.1 GB. No any adverse side effects ......

However, the applications caches I did not touch it till now. I examine it & noticed the following: of 1.3 GB applications cache there is 705.7 MB in Tracker cache + 320.5 MB in gnome-software

I think it is better to deal with applications caches manually.

    1) regarding Tracker cache: is it of any important ? From where it generated to reach such huge size ? Is total removal of it has adverse side effects ?

    2) regarding gnome-software cache: I have following subfolders - see screenshot bellow:

Name:	caches.png
Views:	3
Size:	14.5 KB
ID:	30253

What are your opinions ? Which is (are) safe to delete/empty ?

    Howdy,

It is a waste of time to clean up logs manually.

Edit the logrotate.conf file and the system will do it automatically for you:
