Question remove Owncloud from dnf database without deleting Files?

    Hi,

i need some help about using dnf.
My system is very old, multiple upgraded, but almost stable and easy to use.
It has an owncloud installed from the early beginning an i don't want to switch to nextcloud or something else.
So i installed owncloud X manually into the original fedora OC9.x installation.

Now i've got problems with dependencies while upgrading fedora. So i want to remove the owncloud entries in the dnf database without removing anything from file system because everything is working fine today.

    Who can i do that?

    Thank You very much!

    Frank

If you're trying to upgrade to fc29, I see in koji that owncloud hasn't been built for fc29. You can install the repository manually from the owncloud site, then try to upgrade to fc29.

Re: remove Owncloud from dnf database without deleting Files?

To upgrade to fc29 it's not the problem. fc29 is running fine already.

Evertytime i upgrade the system i get:
Problem: package owncloud-9.1.5-3.fc28.noarch requires php-pecl(smbclient) < 1.0, but none of the providers can be installed
    - cannot install both php-smbclient-1.0.0-1.fc29.i686 and php-smbclient-0.9.0-7.fc29.i686
    - cannot install both php-smbclient-0.9.0-7.fc29.i686 and php-smbclient-1.0.0-1.fc29.i686
    - problem with installed package owncloud-9.1.5-3.fc28.noarch
    - cannot install the best update candidate for package php-smbclient-0.9.0-7.fc29.i686

While owncloud-9.1.5-3.fc28.noarch isn't really installed, cause i copied OC X into those directories.

My question is to remove the owncloud entries in dnf database without deleting files.

    Can anybody help me?

    Many thanks

    Frank

What I would do is add the repository I linked in my first post, then dnf upgrade owncloud to get the new owncloud. That will fix the error.

Re: remove Owncloud from dnf database without deleting Files?

I did try this before. Unfortunately this ends up in the same problem:
    [root@newlapserv ~]# dnf install owncloud-files
Last metadata expiration check: 0:01:28 ago on So 17 Mär 2019 10:47:15 CET.
    Error:
Problem: problem with installed package owncloud-mysql-9.1.5-3.fc28.noarch
    - package owncloud-mysql-9.1.5-3.fc28.noarch requires owncloud = 9.1.5-3.fc28, but none of the providers can be installed
    - package owncloud-files-10.1.0-1.1.noarch obsoletes owncloud <= 9.01.99 provided by owncloud-9.1.5-3.fc28.noarch
    - conflicting requests
(try to add '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages)

So my idea still is to remove obsolete packages from dnf without deleting files to not kill my running system.

dd_wizard said to do a "dnf upgrade owncloud-files" not "dnf install owncloud-files", what happens if you do dnf upgrade the owncloud-files

    owncloud-files isn't installed so ...
    [root@newlapserv ~]# dnf upgrade owncloud-files

Package owncloud-files available, but not installed.
    No match for argument: owncloud-files
Error: No packages marked for upgrade.

    And ...

    [root@newlapserv ~]# dnf update

    Dependencies resolved.

Re: remove Owncloud from dnf database without deleting Files?

I see two options. One: file a bug on bugzilla for owncloud and request and ask the maintainer to build owncloud for fc29. Upgrade after the update is available. Use dnf to remove owncloud, then upgrade to fc29, then install the owncloud-files that you downloaded from the owncloud website.
