    Re: rtl8821ce doesn't work on Fedora 29

So it compiled this time but you still get no wifi? It definitely is an RTL8821CE and not some other variant? Also did you remember to turn off secure boot in the BIOS to allow the newly compiled module to load?

Could you post the output of the following commands.
    Code:
    lspci | grep RTL
    dkms status
    mokutil --sb-state
    modprobe 8821ce

    Re: rtl8821ce doesn't work on Fedora 29

It looks like it didn't get installed properly even though dkms thinks it is, so it may be worth deleting the dkms stuff ( sudo rm -rf /var/lib/dkms/rtl8821ce ) and trying again in case there was something left from previous attempts.

You could also check to see if there is anything interesting in the logs
    Code:
    sudo journalctl -b | grep 8821

    Re: rtl8821ce doesn't work on Fedora 29

And is there any obvious fatal error in /var/lib/dkms/rtl8821ce/v5.2.5_1.26055.20180108.1/build/make.log which it is telling you to consult?

EDIT: Maybe it is something obvious like compiler not installed.

    Code:
sudo dnf install gcc glibc-devel glibc-headers cpp
    Then try again.

Well that's a fairly obvious fatal error! You don't have make installed.
    Code:
    sudo dnf install make
    And try again.

    Re: rtl8821ce doesn't work on Fedora 29

Thank you so much for your kind support.
And I appreciate how patient you were while I was looking for your assistance step by step for I am very new to Linux and Fedora.
Finally Fedora 29 Workstation on my notebook can find Wi-Fi adapter and connect smoothly.

I would like to summarize the procedure for the other people as follows:
    Code:
    sudo dnf install -y make git kernel-headers kernel-devel elfutils-libelf-devel
    reboot
    Code:
    sudo dnf install -y dkms
    reboot
    Code:
    git clone https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce
    reboot
    Code:
    cd rtl8821ce
    chmod +x dkms-install.sh
    chmod +x dkms-remove.sh
    sudo rm -rf /var/lib/dkms/rtl8821ce
    reboot
    Code:
    sudo dnf --refresh upgrade
    reboot
    Code:
    cd rtl8821ce
    sudo ./dkms-install.sh
    reboot
    Code:
sudo dnf install gcc glibc-devel glibc-headers cpp
    sudo dnf install make
Kidly review if it is correct or not.

    Re: rtl8821ce doesn't work on Fedora 29

Excellent news we got there in the end. The install of gcc glibc-devel glibc-headers cpp, didn't do anything/was not needed as were already installed - it was just me guessing what might be missing. What was actually the final missing component was "make" even though that should have been installed in the first step you listed above. I edited my original post to add in possibly missing dependencies and maybe I missed it out originally.

The rm- rf line was only needed because the build failed leaving incomplete status in dkms.

You shouldn't need to reboot so many times and repeat the steps. Basically if "make" had been installed at the start and we had rebooted once into the new kernel, you should have been up and running after the first (I've edited the sequence for clarity).
    Code:
    sudo dnf -y upgrade
    sudo dnf install -y make git kernel-headers kernel-devel elfutils-libelf-devel
    sudo dnf install -y dkms
Reboot now unless sure running kernel matches latest installed.
    Then
    Code:
    git clone https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce
    cd rtl8821ce
    chmod +x dkms-install.sh
    chmod +x dkms-remove.sh
    sudo ./dkms-install.sh
The problem was just in figuring out that it was "make" that was missing after we had the correct kernel.

I have edited my original post in the thread to hopefully make things easier in future for others.
