    Real-Time Patch Kernel For minicomputer LattePanda

    Hi all!

    We want to develop a special system with AD converter on the base of LattePanda 2GB / 32GB (https://www.lattepanda.com/). For this approach more optimal variant is to use the kernel with real-time patch because in other case we will have problems with digital data by the time. What version the Fedora with opened source of kernel is optimal to use for using of RT patch? Where to download these kernel source data?

    Regards
    Serge.

    All the kernels that are provided by Fedora do not support real time patching. However you can compile your own, the process is essentially:

    Code:
    # Download the source from kernel.org (or git), extract the tarball and cd to the directory it creates
    # Copy a working config file from /boot to the current path
    $ make oldconfig
    $ make menuconfig # This will open a menu to change kernel options
    # **Make sure you add a name for your kernel in the EXTRAVERSION **
    # Find the real time patching option and enable it
    $ make bzImage
    $ make modules
    # Switch to root
    $ make modules_install
    $ make install

    Thanks, very constructive answer.
    But Fedora died and we should use Ubuntu instead of Fedora.
    LattePanda doesn't work with Fedora.
    I hope your proposal will work with Ubuntu kernel too.

    Re: Real-Time Patch Kernel For minicomputer LattePanda

    A bit of googling shows that the latte panda is an Intel X-64 quad core based system primarily designed for running WIndows. Nothing in its specifications suggests any major problems with Fedora and other people have reported that Fedora installs and runs fine on it. That said if Ubuntu is what lattepanda recommends then that's a perfectly good option.

    Re: Real-Time Patch Kernel For minicomputer LattePanda

    Hmm, at least one review of the device says that it will only boot in secure mode with Microsoft key signed kernels and that will cause you problems if you are compiling your own kernel. Standard Ubuntu and Fedora kernels are suitably signed

    Edit: It’s not just UEFI only, it’s Trusted UEFI only. That means that if your distro doesn’t have a trusted EFI key, then the bios won’t even recognize it. Canonical/Ubuntu, Redhat/CentOS/Fedora, and SUSE/OpenSUSE have trusted EFI keys and work

    If Latte Panda recommends Ubuntu, and you require the real time kernel, you may want to check out Ubuntu Studio.
    It does have the real time kernel available and easy to install too.
