Disabling secure boot prevents gnome desktop

I just confirmed that disabling secure boot of my acer nitro 5 prevents gnome desktop from coming up.. It gets stuck at `starting GNOME desktop`..
enable secure boot and you get the GUI!

really? if anything I would have thought the reverse would be true with certain hardware as for example some unsigned kernel modules from rpmfusion need secureboot turning off.

So, why don't you leave secure boot on?

Oddly, Virtualbox fails if the secure boot is enabled..

Well, when you install kernel modules, these must be signed with a key that is trusted by your UEFI. Otherwise you cannot use secure boot. Maybe the Virtualbox packages you downloaded has a kernel module that is not signed?!

He who gives up his freedom for security, deserves neither .... (I live by that motto, noone is gonna secure and firewall me into any dark closet ---> and after installing/running around 1000+ servers in my life, including my 30 or so laptops and PCs I've had, I've never been h4x0redz)...
i.e. if the comp won't go into "legacy boot", I give it away to someone less fortunate !
