Fedora 29 - HDMI not working

    Hi.
I have dell 7490 with dell wd15 dock. Monitor connected via DP working as a charm, but second connected to HDMI port (i tried both ports - dock and laptop) is not recognized.
I found similar problem with hdmi and Fedora 28 but i don't have ' nomode set ' in grub file.
Monitor and cable is ok (checked on another device).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    hmmm.

question, if you unplug the DP, and only plug the HDMI port to the monitor, does it work ?

What does the BIOS say about the HDMI and DP outputs ? can you take a photo of it with your mobile phone, and upload it here ?

Re: Fedora 29 - HDMI not working

I just found out that my wife's laptop has:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 630 (rev 04)

It maybe close to yours, so I will research now all the display ports and see what I get.

Also, one thing I can tell you about my previous experience with an Asus mini-PC of mine:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Atom/Celeron/Pentium Processor x5-E8000/J3xxx/N3xxx Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 21)
is that if I plugged in the HDMI with too long of a cable, it didn't work. i.e. nothing shows up. Or even worse, when I got it to work, when I turned off the display, the port would just go dormant, and never come back to life until I rebooted. The only thing I could do is to plug in a very short HDMI cable, that somehow "triggered" it to wake up again. But unfortunately in my desk, my monitor is like 4m away from that mini-PC, so I had to look for another solution. I had to get this little dongle for the thing to work, so now when I turn off the monitor, the connection stays alive:

(note it has a power input, from USB, I guess to keep the connection up)

what generation of HDMI cable is it though? What is it rated for? If you boot any other Linux distribution from Live media does the HDMI display work with that?

usually the cables have the rating printed in small white lettering at intermittent spaces down the length of them. at least if it happens with other Linux media then it rules out a Fedora issue. I know that doesn't really help you but it rules out the need to report a bug which they cannot fix. it's possibly a even a WD15 dock support issue with regards Linux compatibility. does the laptop have it's own HDMI out you can try instead?

Re: Fedora 29 - HDMI not working

I have an issue with HDMI if I connect my laptop to an AV Receiver which is compliant with HDMI 1.4a. There's no output to that but if I connect it directly to the TV instead I get both picture and sound. HDMI can certainly be an odd beast
