    Vlc segmentation fault

    Hi,
    I'm testing Fedora 29 in a virtual machine (Virtualbox 6.0). I've updated all Fedora packages, then I've installed vlc form rpmfusion repository.

    Unfortunately vlc can't start.

    Here is the error:

    Code:
    $ vlc
    VLC media player 3.0.5 Vetinari (revision 3.0.5-1-0-g653c0c1ca8)
    Segmentation fault (core dump creato)

    What's wrong?

    My system: Fedora 29, Intel® Core™ i5-6600 CPU @ 3.30GHz × 2, graphic llvmpipe (LLVM 7.0, 256 bits), Gnome 3.30.2, kernel Linux localhost.localdomain 4.19.13-300.fc29.x86_64 #1 SMP Sat Dec 29 22:54:28 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    Thanks

    Re: Vlc segmentation fault

    Virtualbox 6? The latest guest additions version in Fedora is 5.2.22-1.fc29. What is your host O/S? If you are running virtualbox 6 host and Fedora 29 as a guest then you will have virtualbox-guest-additions.x86_64 5.2.22-1.fc29 installed on the Fedora system by default and that version mismatch might be causing problems. Perhaps you manually installed 6 guest additions though.

    I can say that vlc works for me with Fedora 29 guest using 5.2.22 under both Windows and Fedora hosts. As virtualbox 6.0.0 was released only three weeks ago I'm not especially tempted to try it yet. Virtualbox 5.2 series will be supported by Oracle and continue to receive updates through July 2020.

    Re: Vlc segmentation fault

    Is really virtualbox the problem? I'm running Manjaro Linux as host and Virtualbox 6.0 is in its official repo. Guest additions of course are at 6.0 version.

    Re: Vlc segmentation fault

    So just to make sure I've got it right you removed the Fedora provided virtualbox-guest-additions (sudo dnf remove virtualbox-guest-additions) on the guest and manually installed the later virtualbox guest additions on Fedora from Virtualbox 6 provided version? If so then obviously there is no version mismatch so that isn't a problem but I'd still be wary of using 6.0.0 as it is so new and likely needs a few point releases to get the bugs out. That may not be the problem of course.

    Hi, I've uninstalled guest additions, then reinstalled: vlc still doesn't work.

    VLC Segmentation fault (core dumped) F28

    So I've done this 10,000 times but for some reason on this install vlc wont start:

    $ sudo systemctl enable tlp
    [mike@picollo .system]$ vlc
    VLC media player 3.0.5 Vetinari (revision 3.0.5-1-0-g653c0c1ca8)
    Segmentation fault (core dumped)

    installed with dnf from fusion repos per every instruction and historical knowledge.

    When it launches a "report" it simply tells me VLC doesn't ship with Fedora so nothing to report.

    Fedora release 28 (Twenty Eight), fully updated.

    I have reverted from F29 thinking this would solve my issue, but alas, no.

    I am on the xfce4 spin if that matters.

    thanks

    You're the second person to report a vlc core dump today https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showt...entation-fault

    Working fine for me though

    $ vlc
    VLC media player 3.0.5 Vetinari (revision 3.0.5-1-0-g653c0c1ca8)
    [00005575c3751590] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.

    Interestingly someone else has just reported a similar error in thread https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showt...re-dumped)-F28.

    Hi, I'm the other guy with same problem. I'm using Fedora 29 in a virtualbox guest, Gnome and kernel 3.19.

    Re: Vlc segmentation fault

    Maybe try running

    $ vlc --verbose 2

    and see how far it gets which might give a clue.

    It's not enough verbose:

    Code:
    [riccardo@localhost ~]$ vlc -verbose 2

    Segmentation fault (core dump creato)

    [riccardo@localhost ~]$ vlc -verbose 3
