Possible to install LibreOffice and Draftsight, can start them but donīt run

    Fedora 29 cinnamon

I installed both with the command
    Code:
    su -c 'yum install *.rpm'
The installation runs well, the programs are shown in the programm list.

If I start them, they start and show their logo but then nothing happened.
Please help me, Iīam new with fedora, after many driver problems under LinuxMint18.3mate.
If I start them, they show their logo but then happens nothing.
edit: LibreOffice worked first. But then I could not install the language pack, the serial number was wrong. So I deleted LO and reinstalled it (5.1.3). Then I was able to install the language pack, but now LO is no longer working.

Re: Possible to install LibreOffice and Draftsight, can start them but donīt run

thread moved to using fedora section as you've already installed the operating system.

why didn't you use the version of LibreOffice in the Fedora repositories? It should still be current for Fedora 29. You may be missing a package called clang which is required for libreoffice to run. try starting libreoffice in safe mode as well and reset all options to defaults as you may have corrupted your user profile for it.

    Code:
    libreoffice --safe-mode
also, please get used to using the dnf command instead of yum. yum is deprecated and all yum commands are sent to dnf. if you need help with which commands are available for dnf look at the dnf man pages. they differ slightly from yum but most are converted across.

    Many thanks for you message.
So seen Iīll delete both programm and reinstall it with dnf.
Your tip to start LO in safe mode works not in the terminal. Is this the wrong place?
I come back tomorro and will report.

it should work but if you are using Fedora Workstation you may need to start your session in Xorg instead of Wayland to launch libreoffice in safe mode from the terminal. Wayland (the default workstation session type) doesn't permit loading GUI programs from the terminal. you can switch to Xorg at the login screen for Workstation

@ antikythera - thanks for your help!
I lost one Problem. After installing an elder Libreoffice 6.1.2.1 by
    sudo yum remove libreoffice*
and a long, long search for the correct language package, libreoffice works well.
Before I installed it exactly like Libreoffice said with the rpmī s, it doesnī t works , like before.

Same problem with DraftSight. This program is only aviable from Dassault SystčmesŪ. I miss ist strong.
It works well under Win10 an under Mint but not here.

dnf has a search function which could have made short work of your long long search.
    Code:
$ sudo dnf search libreoffice | grep lang

As for your DraftSight problem, see this post and try installing a older version of fontconfig

Re: Possible to install LibreOffice and Draftsight, can start them but donīt run

    @ antikythera
you can switch to Xorg at the login screen for Workstation
How can I do that, at the starter page I see only the option
    a) cinnamon
    b) cinnamon (Software rendering)
    c) openbox
Is one of them the Xorg option?

    (I remember that I installed the fedora-cinnamon-workstation: Fedora-Cinnamon-Live-x86_64-29-1.2.iso)

    Thanks for this command.
My problem was not the kind of language, the problem was the version.
The system installed the Vers. 6.1.2.1. The LibreOffice Page offers only the newer 6.1.3.2.
So I got a mistake message, it was not possible to install the newer language pack.
I found the right version at rpmfind.net. As I said, Iīm new under fedora.

BTW, I think FreeCAD works better than Draftsight.

Re: Possible to install LibreOffice and Draftsight, can start them but donīt run

Since I was happy too early.
Yesterday I was able to use DraftSight, today it's out of reach.
It is no longer shown in the Menue and it can not start in Terminal.
The attempt to reinstall it, fails with the message
    "Package draftsight-2018.3.0.4215-1.x86_64 is already installed."
    Can me help someone?
    edit:
Under Linux Mint 18.3 Draftsight starts with the menu call
    /opt/dassault-systemes/DraftSight/Linux/DraftSight
The program directory for DraftSight is identical here on Fedora19.
But with the same menu call here, I get failure message
    ~]$ /opt/dassault-systemes/DraftSight/Linux/DraftSight
/opt/dassault-systemes/DraftSight/Linux/DraftSight: symbol lookup error: /lib64/libfontconfig.so.1: undefined symbol: FT_Done_MM_Var
I can not come to a solution.

Here is one thing you can check for DraftSight being broken again.

If you got Draftsight to work by downgrading fontconfig to an older version, then did an general update, the update would replace the older fontconfig with a newer one. Thus breaking Draftsight again. Check and see what version fontconfig is now, downgrade to the older version if necessary, and tell dnf to exclude fontconfig when updating.
I try to think, but nothin' happens!

Re: Possible to install LibreOffice and Draftsight, can start them but donīt run

@Pudge ... Many thanks for your help.
Sorry, I did not know how to test the fontconfig version?

In the meantime I reinstalled draftSight again without success.
Otherside I get with any system start an error message

Name:	Fehlermeldung_en.jpg
Views:	4
Size:	45.3 KB
ID:	29950
... but in the error reporting is no message.

edit: It looks like I have to keep LinuxMint, to work with DraftSight, because that's where DraftSigt goes great.
