    F29 Install No Root Password

    Hello World

I have done a clean install of F29. The install did not ask for root password, therefore I cannot login as root from a terminal.
    Anybody else have this problem?

You could boot to single user mode which boots to a root shell, then run: passwd root and create a root password. To get to single mode, hit e at the grub menu, navigate down to the linux kernel line, add the number 1 after a space and hit cntl+x to boot. If that doesn't work you could could have a look at this thread: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=297501

You did create a user account and password though presumably and you should be an administrator? You should be able to use "sudo passwd root" if you want to give it a password. Or just "sudo su" (and give your account password) to get a shell as root.

It is by design, the Fedora maintainers changed this behaviour a while back for the Workstation Live ISO to cut down 'redundant' installation steps. read the readme link below which contains details of the change and instructions to set a root password

The lxde install still uses the root password setting in the installer.

that's because the policy change is specific to the Workstation Live ISO

Yes, that's certainly the case, but in my own wading through distributions and spins, it's been quite useful to have a more generic means of generating a root password than the one now in the default workstation.

I run from the "netinstall". That is the same as the previous versions, where you can set up a root password and a user password. Plus, "netinstall" also gives you a choice of what to install, Gnome, KDE etc.

With the live iso version, the user password is the root password.
Once I discovered that set up, I logged in as root and changed the password.

sudo su , oh man , Ubuntu started this silliness, another step towards Linux morphing into windows XP.

Re: F29 Install No Root Password

could be far worse, morphing into W10. I concur that the removal of root password creation was a mistake but it's thankfully so far only the Workstation Live ISO specifically that had that applied. The network installer ISO images and the Live versions of other desktop spins should still work in the traditional manner.
