How to add apps to Dash to Dock?

I see the settings, but no where do I see where I can pin a certain app that I want to be there. Is there a way other than opening it?

Click on "show applications", find what you want to add, RIGHT click on it and click on "Add to Favorites".

    There is good documentation on

That is a list of documentation on various features of Gnome.

Or just run the app, then right click on the apps icon that appears on the dash and select add to favorites. Similar to pin to taskbar in win.
