Leslie, unfortunately, I can do little to address your concerns here. I last installed Fedora on bare metal when it was Fedora 27. I have been upgrading since then (touch wood). Further, I have almost no GNOME or KDE components either - Only Xfce ...

    Hi Mithrandir

Do you have two disks? I have 5 with 5 distributions. Anaconda uses the swap file from a second disk for the resume. When I resinstall the distribution on that 2nd disk, I also reformat swap, which changes it's UUID.
Want to see what I mean? You have a delay in startup and in shutdown?

Edit your grub.cfg and temporarily change one character from the resume=UUID= and reboot.
What did you experience? After your test, don't forget to restore the changed character.

some mirrors might not be ready yet but you can try the following options if you're in that much of a hurry:

Those ISO files all have a date on them of October 24th to October 26th, though. Wouldn't that still be from during the time Fedora 29 was in beta? And according to the GetFedora website, F29 is still in beta. Is it possible they delayed the release and not everything got done?

Releases normally happen about 10:00AM EST (Eastern Standard Time) and I'm betting it will be that way today.

no, they are the release ISO. it's not uncommon for a release ISO to be dated prior to the date of release because they get tested again first. once all checks are satisfied the release date is announced and they are transferred from the testing folders to the release folders.
