May I suggest a Newbie area in the forum?

I am new myself, so It isn't easy to make a suggestion. But Fedora seems to be up and coming, and well, a lot of us will show up. Could we have a place to maybe introduce ourselves and our backgrounds?
    Thank you.

Actually, Fedora Focus could serve that need.

Re: May I suggest a Newbie area in the forum?

yep, that's what it says on the tin - "Come in and have a general chat about Fedora and things relating to Fedora. Also a good place to introduce yourself and perhaps talk about your initial experiences"

anyhow, if you need to make suggestions about the Fedora Project itself, then this forum isn't the right channel. It is a user community operated by users for users. To get in touch with the developers and maintainers use the ask Fedora site, Fedora mailing lists or ultimately report any major issues via Bugzilla that haven't already been resolved through one of the former avenues.

(He-he ) The last sentence on the tin was my addition after reading this suggestion. Good idea, stole it.

Idea is interesting, especially because Fedora is a very large project and a system constantly updated!!!!

In reality, FedoraProject would prefer that new users try AskFedora, which is their Q&A platform. They direct you to that in almost every page of their website and our Forum is not featured at all.

that's as maybe but the reason is that this Forum is not officially connected to Fedora Project, it's an independently owned and run

so of course they want to promote and push users to use their own resources.

Well obviously, this does not mean that it is really useful to users, I would see a good eye a section for novice user and even better if you enrich it with several guides useful for beginners!!!!

Re: May I suggest a Newbie area in the forum?

The problem with fedoraforum.org is that there is no problem. What would help new users is to see the word new user somewhere in the chat description.

if that were the case would we have a suggestions and feedback section? or allow users a voice over the forum upgrade? the problem is actually that giving some members an inch they can sometimes expect a mile. while ideas and feedback are obviously appreciated the forum is not a democracy

Re: May I suggest a Newbie area in the forum?

I am back from a 8 day visit to my youngest grandson, with no laptop, just a cellphone limited linux info. I agree with Antikythera, that the forum is a propriatory, and it's up to the owners to run it as they see fit.
Correct me if I am wrong but are the most new posters also new to Fedora and/or new to Linux. While we do our best to assist them with Fedora issues, there is often a shyness of a new Linux user to post questions or to participate. This forum (Suggestions and Feedback) appears to be the place to present suggestions.

Re: May I suggest a Newbie area in the forum?

How does a suggestions&feedback appeal to a new user asking a fedora specific question? I'm at a loss here.
No one is saying the state of affairs of the forum ownership should change, just that a new section, that newbies like myself have come to expect in forums.
