How to access WIndows PC files?

HI everyone, I am new here. I installed Fedora 28 after a failed love relationship with ubuntu.
I have an older Windows laptop that has some files in a folder called 'my files' (yes, not very imaginative). I have set the windows part to be discoverable. How and what do I need to allow me to access (remotely) the files from Fedora?
If this is in the wrong section of the forum, please feel free to move.
    Thank you.

You may create "Network Share" on Windows and reach these directories from linux through Samba client which should be built into file manager (per IP/share_name). Computer with shared directory should be visible into "Network" -> "View Network" bookmark, eg. in Thunar, Nautilus, etc.

Look here (search if you have other Windows version):

Do you want to know the absolutely easiest way?
Install FileZilla Server on Windows and FileZilla Client on Linux.

Strictly speaking, you don't even need FileZilla on Linux, since there are umpteen ways to do FTP, but it is in the repos.

Just boot the laptop to any Linux 'live' disc, go to your Windows directory and copy the files you need, paste them onto a USB drive that is formatted with FAT32 or NTFS.

    Done.

That is good for archiving, but there are new files being created daily, so a wireless transfer is preferable.

From your OP it sounded like a file rescue operation rather than an ongoing rsync setup.

as you have WLAN and therefore access to the internet an alternative would be to use a cloud service of your choosing to automatically save a copy of your files to a secure cloud which you can access from any of your devices

Well that made a lot of sense! I'll start looking into those, I think google has them as GDrive.
    Thanks!
