External keyboard backlights triggering off randomly

I am running 4.13.16-100.fc25.x86_64 on an older Toshiba C855D, and I just bought an external keyboard (DEXP Liquid Metal [Russian brand], but it's about as generic as white bread).
The external keyboard has led backlighting. Since I paid for it, I would like it to work. Running $ xset led 3 does turn the backlighing on, but when I hit seemingly random keys, the lights turn off.
I have been searching around, but I cannot seem to find anyone with a solution to the problem. For a built-in keyboard, there is a file in sys/class/leds that can be manipulated, but it doesn't help for an external.
Also, I have tried $ xmodmap -e 'add mod3 = Scroll_Lock', but that turns off again in a random fashion.

The random agent must be a trigger, but I cannot map it out.

Does anyone know how to set the external keyboard led backlights on so that they stay on? Extra bonus cookie if anyone can solve how to make it switchable.

    Most thankful,
    Mentok

Hey, here are some steps that may help to fix the issue:

    - First, start with uninstalling/reinstalling the keyboard driver.
    - Go to Device Manager >uninstall the keyboard driver then reboot your laptop.
    - If the problem still continues even after the reboot.
    - Then try installing the ATK driver for your keyboard
    - Once installed, again reboot the laptop and observe.
    - If all these steps don't work then that means there is the hardware issue. Then you need to replace your keyboard.
