replacing mint with Fedora? Is it possible?

Hi I am a new Linux user who is currently using Linux Mint.
I find Mint is somewhat buggy and I would like to change the OS to Fedora.
Not sure if is possible to reinstall the OS on the same hard-drive, the same partition, without losing any files
as both OS are Linux based.
Let me know if it possible or I have to have back up the data, wipe the hard drive then install Fedora,

    Some insights will be great.

Not if your home directory is in the same partition as root which is the default Mint partition layout. You'd need to backup your files before installing Fedora as formatting root partition is required for installing a different Linux distribution. This is necessary to avoid breakages.

Backup /home/youruser (including all hidden directories)
    Install F28
    Create youruser on F28
    copy back /home/youruser
    you are back in business.

If you use the network install version of Fedora 28, then you can reuse the partition space that Mint used

    for example
grub2-coreimage reformat this it may have a different name.
    /boot reformat this
    / reformat this
    /home preserve
    /swap reformat

If you do not see the 6 files, then follow robbnl's advice --backup /home, let the Fedora installer do it's thing and then restore /home

To backup /home use rsync -rav /home /to_backup_drive/ #a /home will be copied onto the to_backup_drive
