Re: Most reliable 1 terrabyte Hard Drive

I had one drive that became an intermittant. I flipped it top side down, and it continues to work. A second drive, today, died a hard death.
It would not format, even when in an external case.

So, my replacment for the "second" drive is in, and I will be reinstalling Tumbleweed KDE

Are both drives in laptops? Also, I am curious to know how old the drives were when they failed and what brand they are.

I hope things go better better for you soon. I'm also hoping you use scripts to install your application software and set all your preferences for KDE. I don't know anything about KDE, but I'm guessing they have something similar to gsettings in gnome that can be used to implement settings from a script.

Ouch! But then you get to install the system 'clean' again!

    TablePC,
Just the way I do things. First I don't have a bunch of preference settings. As long as I can change the background and get to my apps I am golden. Rest is just 'fluff'. That said, I keep my /home on a separate drive (and of course it is backed up on external drives). So all user setting are preserved (like Thunderbird settings, and Firefox bookmarks and such) when I redirect the 'new' OS to use the /home drive.
