    How to add visible persistent network interface alias on FC

    I'd like to add a persistent network alias subnet for device testing and development.

    On my system, the secondary (test-net) interface/NIC is named "enp7s0", and I am able to manually add a temporary alias the usual way with:

    ifconfig enp7s0:1 192.168.1.100 netmask 255.255.255.0

    which works fine, but must be manually reconfigured after system reboot, power-failure, etc. Once the above comment has been entered, the existence/settings of the alias may be confirmed with ifconfig, which correctly shows:

    enp7s0:1: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    inet 192.168.1.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255
    ether 68:05:ca:43:ad:8e txqueuelen 1000 (Ethernet)
    device interrupt 18 memory 0xfbbc0000-fbbe0000

    Now, some web searches have turned up a persistent method by appending simple entries to the usual config file: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-enp7s0

    IPADDR2=192.168.1.100
    PREFIX2=24

    So, this actually works, except the settings and existence of the interface alias are not visible via ifconfig, so there is no way to query/confirm the alias (that I can think of).

    In the old days, I'd just add an "Sxxx" rcS startup script to take care of this, but this appears to be frowned upon since windoze-like systemd stuff took over. Does anybody else out there know the recommended method for adding a persistent network subnet alias on FC?

    Thanks.

    Did not understood

    Do you have several network interface or do you want to add a virtual network interface ?
    " device interrupt 18 memory 0xfbbc0000-fbbe0000 " -----> it seems that this is an IRQ message error that needs deeper investigations ...

    Re: How to add visible persistent network interface alias on FC

    I think they are obsoleting ifconfig
    try the command: ip addr

    I know, oh well ....

    EDIT: I happen to do a LOT of that, managing servers. And I have found the best solution to:
    1. configure your bridges (if you will do Virtualization)
    2. systemctl disable NetworkManager
    3. systemctl stop NetworkManager
    4. systemctl enable network
    5. recreate /etc/resolv.conf (careful, sometimes it remains linked to /var/run/NetworkManager/somelunacy, and you need to remove and reedit)
    6. edit the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-nnnnn
    ---> NOTE: the overpowering power which dictates what is what is HWADDR == MAC Address.
    ---> Make sure you got your names right. , example (bridge1 matches in the ifcfg-nnn, the NAME, and DEVICE):
    Code:
    [root@boa network-scripts]# cat ifcfg-bridge1
    HWADDR=0C:C4:7A:FB:52:9D
    STP=no
    TYPE=Bridge
    PROXY_METHOD=none
    BROWSER_ONLY=no
    BOOTPROTO=none
    IPADDR=192.168.0.217
    PREFIX=24
    DEFROUTE=yes
    IPV4_FAILURE_FATAL=no
    IPV6INIT=no
    NAME=bridge1
    UUID=8b2c01f8-b12d-4da0-b66c-c485bad0a440
    DEVICE=bridge1
    ONBOOT=yes
    ZONE=internal
    reboot, beer !

    Re: How to add visible persistent network interface alias on FC

    The new scheme is described in section "2.3.4.2. Network/Netmask Directives Format" of https://docs-old.fedoraproject.org/e...ide/index.html for FC24.

    My two additional (temporary) network subnets may be manually added to interface enp7s0 with:
    ip address add 192.168.0.100/24 dev enp7s0
    ip address add 192.168.1.100/24 dev enp7s0

    My two persistent network subnets may be added by appending to the config file: /etc/sysconfig/network-scrips/ifcfg-enp7s0
    IPADDR1=192.168.0.100
    PREFIX1=24
    IPADDR2=192.168.1.100
    PREFIX2=24

    The current settings and address ranges may be displayed for IP interface enp7s0 with:
    ip addr show enp7s0
