    EFI Error

I'm having a problem upgrading from F27 to F28. I tried it with --allowerasing and dnf distro-sync --allowerasing but still get the error.

    Error: Transaction check error:
file /boot/efi/EFI/fedora from install of grub2-common-1:2.02-34.fc28.noarch
conflicts with file from package fwupdate-efi-8-4.fc26.i686

Side note: using dnf clean packages afterward returns '0 packages removed' and I confirmed that. Trying to run upgrade again says all the packages are already downloaded.

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Re: EFI Error

    Seems simple:
    Code:
    # dnf erase fwupdate-efi
Do note that that is a package from fc26. There is no fwupdate-efi package installed on my F28 uefi system.

Thanks that worked. I was unsure about removing something from the /boot folder so thought I'd better check.

I totally understand your caution here. Yeah, remove package, reboot, to find out booting into system is now totally borked.

    Re: EFI Error

My upgrade was successful, but there is no F28 kernel in /boot or the boot menu. I still have the same 3 F27 kernels I had before the upgrade. All other packages now show as F28 except the kernels, but there is a kernel-debug-devel and kernel headers that are F28. I didn't see anything about this on forum, is F28 using F27 kernels?

no, it has it's own kernel builds. seems like your upgrade went south but have you tried

    Code:
    sudo mkinitcpio -P
which will build any missing initramfs images, then update grub.

    Code:
    sudo grubby --update-kernel=ALL
if grubby doesn't work for some reason use this instead

    Code:
    sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg

    Re: EFI Error

I figured it out, I was using PAE kernels and those aren't available in the F28 repos so my F27 kernels didn't get updated. I manually installed the latest F28 kernel and erased all but one of the PAE kernels, until the next F28 kernel is released. (I don't like having just one kernel).
