    Yes, I'm sure your right about that and that it doesn't effect the system timezone setting. Not sure why you're using gnome-control-center in Xfce, but if there are still F25 repos available to you, then why not just do "dnf install system-config-date". The last build for that package was for F25 as listed on koji.

    If that fails, then do"
    Code:
    # rpm -ivh --nosignature https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//packages/system-config-date/1.10.9/3.fc25/noarch/system-config-date-1.10.9-3.fc25.noarch.rpm
    When you launch it from the menu, you should be prompted for either root (or your user sudo password if you use sudo) password. It's written in python and still runs fine on F28 from the F24 build (fc20 - fc25 all used the same version of code 1.10.9).

    I've already installed it; I was trying to use the gnome version simply because I thought it was installed.

    It turns out that system-config-date only works with ntp. Any other ideas?

    Code:
    Description	system-config-date is a graphical interface for changing the system date and time, configuring the system time zone, and setting up the NTP daemon to synchronize the time of the system with an NTP time server.
    Setting ntp time server to be active is an option in system-config-date. It is not required. I used it that way for many years, without setting the ntp server to be active.

    And just for the fun of it...
    Code:
    $ ls rpmbuild/RPMS/noarch/
    system-config-date-1.10.9-3.fc28.noarch.rpm

    OK, I've looked at the ntp tab, and it gives two choices: provide it with ntp servers or disable syncing time via the network. Also, what good is an rpm built for fc28, when I started out saying that my desktop's using Fedora 25?

    It's rather hard to download an .rpm if you don't have the site's url, and you forgot to give it. Also, I'm not at all interested in building from source, as I expect to be passing this info on to Linux users who aren't willing to use a CLI. That's part of why I'm asking; the less often you're forced to use a CLI, the more likely it is that J. Random Computeruser will be willing to experiment with (and maybe switch to) Linux.

    And I said, "And just for the fun of it...". I didn't do the rebuild for you or anyone else other than myself. There is virtually no difference in the program, only one says fc25 and one says fc28 in the rpm package name. I understand that they dropped this program since the adoption of chronyd rather than to rewrite the code to conform to the newer versions of Python and to accommodate chronyd, but it's still usefull to just adjust the date and time in a graphical environment, for now.

    As for myself, I'm quite content to use timedatectl in a command line console.
