    have you done this?

Gnome with Wayland and NVIDIA doesn't work by default at this point. There is a need to have a special version of mutter built with eglstream support.
    Code:
    dnf copr enable mati865/mutter-eglstream
    dnf --disablerepo="*" --enablerepo="mati865-mutter-eglstream" reinstall mutter
Since wayland is the default with GNOME, if you do not want to install the alternate mutter package, better to uncomment "WaylandEnable=false" in /etc/gdm/custom.conf

    Re: nvidia install wont install

I tried the command you suggested, but the dnf command to reinstall mutter fails:

    $ sudo dnf --disablerepo="*" --enablerepo="mati865-mutter-eglstream" reinstall mutter
    [sudo] password for xxx:
Last metadata expiration check: 0:07:18 ago on Fri 08 Jun 2018 10:31:57 AM CDT.
Installed package mutter-3.28.2-1.fc28.x86_64 (from updates) not available.
Error: No packages marked for reinstall.
Do you know a nice safe way to do this reinstall? fyi I'm on fc28.

    Thanks.

    Re: nvidia install wont install

    I had the same problem.
After I enabled mati865 repo with "dnf distro-sync" I was able to install the mutter from this repo.

PS. After I installed mutter form this repo, gnome use X11 not wayland. (echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE - X11).

    Re: nvidia install wont install

    Thanks, @roadrunner. I'll try distro-sync next time.

I actually uninstalled mutter from fedora repo, and made a note of all the dependencies (gdm, gnome) that also got removed. Then I installed mutter from the mati865 repo, and reinstalled all the dependencies. I had to re-enable gdm in systemd, and then it all worked as before.

Sadly, as in your case, GDM and Gnome continued to use x11. I notice these lines in journalctl -b:

Jun 08 19:08:57 XXXX gnome-shell[1840]: Failed to initialize accelerated iGPU/dGPU framebuffer sharing: No matching EGL configs
Jun 08 19:08:57 XXXX gnome-shell[1840]: Unable to initialize Clutter: Unable to initialize the Clutter backend: no available drivers found.
Jun 08 19:08:57 XXXX gnome-shell[1840]: Unable to initialize Clutter.

I do have the latest nVidia drivers, 396.24.

Does anyone know how to get Wayland working after installing the egl aware mutter?
