Videos Play Failure: F28 Firefox Quantum V. 60.0

Videos will play on YouTube although the quality is not the best. Fox and CNN videos won't play. What are the best plugins for the best quality play-back that I need to install?

    Thank-you for your response,

I am trying to work through your steps. I got to through step 1, however, I cannot get through step 2. What is 'fedy' as you state in the other post you linked? Thank-you.

Re: Videos Play Failure: F28 Firefox Quantum V. 60.0

    Hello jjstorm.

First you right about the second step I had to add the install "How To".
So to help you and to fix that issue with Fedy.....
First of all Fedy=Fedora Tweak Tools.

So After we know now what is Fedy....let's go to the process of installation of Fedy.

To add Fedy to your system just open terminal and add the commands as User=Root.

    1.
    Code:
    dnf install https://dl.folkswithhats.org/fedora/$(rpm -E %fedora)/RPMS/fedy-release.rpm
    2. Then:

    Code:
    dnf install https://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm https://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm
    3. and the last Command.

    Code:
    dnf install fedy

Now just few images from Fedy so you will find your way with the Tweaking Tools.

BTW - CNN on my Browser:

And just for the record you can see on youtube the support that the Browser have:

Here is how your Software Center need to look in the add-ons Option with Codecs.
you need to install all of them one after one so at the end you will get that image full support in Multimedia + Fedy support package.

Hope that will help you and Others to solve the Audio/Video issues in Advance.
Good Luck jjstorm and all Others.

    Hi gman1,

I did install all the gstreamer plugins first, and then moved on to step 2, videos on fox and cnn will still not play. I am going to reiniate the process, by unintalling everything, and then reinstalling, and I will report back

Re: Videos Play Failure: F28 Firefox Quantum V. 60.0

    Hello jjstorm.

Before you start doing things on the fresh system, please follow the steps here to get things supported your needs.
This Guide will cover the repo's that you need in Advance to get the Multimedia works for you.
one important things is to import the key from any on the repo's and to accepts them with - (Y) - and Enter.

    1- step-1.

    rpmfusion:

    Code:
    sudo dnf install https://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm https://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm

    2 - step -2.

    Fedy

    Code:
    dnf install https://dl.folkswithhats.org/fedora/$(rpm -E %fedora)/RPMS/fedy-release.rpm

    Then:

    Code:
    dnf install https://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm https://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm

    Then:

    Code:
    dnf install fedy

    step -3.

    spotify-client

    Code:
    dnf config-manager --add-repo=https://negativo17.org/repos/fedora-spotify.repo
    then:

    Code:
    dnf -y install spotify-client

    step-4.

    fedora-workstation-repositories

    Code:
    dnf install fedora-workstation-repositories

    step -5.

    VLC media player

    Code:
    dnf -y install vlc

    step - 6.

Now After you have all repo's done you can Update your System:

    Code:
    dnf clean all
    then:

    Code:
    dnf clean packages
    Then:

    Code:
    dnf update
After the Update reboot the System from terminal with the command:

    Code:
    reboot

SO that is your first round with new System installation in Advance.

when you back to your Desktop,(After you have Upgraded the new kernel and the System).
    first install the package yum-utils.
BTW - just to add some extra info about the needs of that package = helps to remove Old Kernels !

    Code:
    dnf install yum-utils

After you have install thee yum-utils,now you ready to remove Old kernels from the system.

now to remove the Old kernels....kind of tricky but easy.
the command need to be change After the ( * ).
    How we do that?

First - see what kernels you have on your System with the command:

    Code:
    dnf list installed kernel
Now you will see in the Terminal the kernels you have.
look and see who is the lowest kernel that you have,
and with the next command you will need to Edit the kernel name in the command.

    To remove the Old kernel:
please pay attention to the right kernel that you want to remove !!!
you need to add your kernel number right After the (*)+add your System arch like - .x86_64 at the end of the command.

    Code:
    dnf remove kernel*(4.16.4-200.fc28.x86_64)
After all set then you will be ask if you want to remove the kernel (y,n) = hit (y) and Enter.

After the remove process is done, you need to reboot the System.

    Code:
    reboot
After you back to your Desktop,First thing will be to Open - Fedy and install your needs from the options.
You can look again on my post top and all the needs for support in the Multimedia from Fedy are there.

The next step will be to Open the Software Center and to install all the add-ons from there - look on the image that I post for you.
then when you done, update the system again.
Now you will need to have all the support in Multimedia.

Just one Advice here for you.
when you install " VLC" make sure to install the "extras"package.

    vlc,vlc-core,vlc-extras.
one last thing for you with your software needs install the software = Shutter.

    Code:
    dnf install shutter
that will cover the screenshot options.
    ************************************************** **************
Hope that Guide will solve the issues with the Multimedia, and to all Others.

    take care and good luck.
