Re: Kernel update causes xorg failure

Update : following this thread https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/t...ap_sg_attrs-/2 you can find a patch for the kernel that fixes the problem. Also as mentioned above the beta drivers 396.18 works without problems...

Did you download/run 'nvidia-detect' to learn the correct kmod-drivers to install?

Not sure where you went previously, but you'll likely have to un-do/un-install it to get back to the generic installation.

Then run nvidia-detect and note the file that it tells you that you will need

Then (as root) dnf install {the filename you noted above}. Please note that I may not have the syntax correct for dnf - I don't use it because I am running CentOS and use yum.

    reboot

Your machine should now keep the drivers updated during your normal updatesif all goes well. Hope this fixes it for you.

Theres is (where ?) also an option to force akmods to build the (correct ?) nvidia mods

If you can boot up to a blank screen, you might be able to switch to a virtual terminal , with ex. CTRL+ALT+F3
and get a fullscreen prompt for login.

    Then as root (or sudo)
    akmods --force
It worked for me some years ago, and if it says the mod is there i uninstalled the latest nvidia kmod , and build it with akmods and reboot.

I find the latest kmod with this command

    dnf list kmod-nvidia*

    Hi,
What video card do you have? What kernel, distribution and what nvidia driver do you want to install?

    Sorry for the late answer.
    Read this:
    https://www.if-not-true-then-false.c...-nvidia-guide/
    Tha last driver is 390.24.
For me work with Fedora 28. I do not see a reason for you not to work.

Following the guide does not fix the error, i 'm going to upgrade to Fedora 28 and then reinstall the drivers.

Check nvidia driver in software center review for a good install. Software center, other install no good right now or problems. Very very picky.

Re: Kernel update causes xorg failure

I upgraded to Fedora 28, using rpm packages i got an infinite loop during the startup on the Gnome Display manager, it essentially goes black and than restart. Using Nvidia proprietary installer it worked but only after i added a custom selinux policy ...
