Cant see grub menu on external monitor

Mostly just an annoying issue here. I recently I picked up a lenovo 720s. I dual boot Fedora 27 and Windows 10 which works great. I typically use it with lid closed and external hdmi monitor. With this particular laptop I cant see anything on my external monitor until AFTER grub. It would be nice to be able to see grub menu on the monitor. I wonder if it has something to do with this model having two internal gpus?

Anyone else run into this or have a work around?

Re: Cant see grub menu on external monitor

I'm not sure grub has a way to drive the external monitor until the kernel is loaded with the proper driver.

See if the laptop BIOS setting has a choice to drive video output to the external port by default.
