DVD size changes depending on use in Brasero

I pretty much always buy "-R" DVDs and I use them for either data projects where I just write a bunch of files to the DVD or to write a .ISO file disk image to DVD.

When I'm doing a data project Brasero says the DVD capacity is 4.7Gb, and experience has shown that capacity to be real.

When I write a .ISO file disk image to DVD, Brasero says the DVD capacity is 2.8 Gb. Now, so far, I've never written a .ISO file to DVD that was more than 1.9 Gb, but I wonder why the capacity for this type of use is reported as only 2.8 Gb. Is that real and why?

Thanks in advance for your help.

it's probably the drive and media combination being handled badly by growisofs. have you got any logs from the last burn? also, you could try xfburn next time and see if it does the same.

Where would I find those logs?

try the /var/log directory and look for either a brasero folder or file there.

I looked in (/var/log) and I tried searching starting at "Computer" for "brasero log" and had no luck.

I also looked at xfburn. I am hesitant to use that because, thought it's on their list of things to do, xfburn doesn't do checksums and checking yet. The ISOs I burn to DVD are for testing so I need to be sure everything went okay.

Thanks for your continued help on this.

Sorry I was just rushing to fast to to see when the message really was. I was looking at it after I have selected the image file and it was tessling me how much room was left on DVD NOT the DVD's capacity. Again I'm sorry for the interruption.
