    Show Just Packets "dropped"

    Hello,

I have a 2 interfaces shared between a few hosts (via an Oracle RAC). When doing an ifconfig command and then again after a few minutes, we can see dropped packets is incrementing slowly.

I want to write a script to send an email if drops are detected in the future. I know how to write the logic but need to find if there a way to just output dropped values for each interface.

    How can I do this?

    Thanks,

    Michael

    for just numeric values:
    Code:
    netstat -s | grep -i drop | awk '{ print $1 }'
to view more network info, you can cat, grep, and awk for lots in /proc/net/dev.

If you're comfortable in python the psutil module can help you with this as well.
