    dnf system upgrade and cinnamon

    I upgraded from Fedora 24 to 26 using "dnf system-upgrade ..."
This seemed to work fine but only later I found a problem.

I was using Cinnamon for my display manager and everything seemed fine.

BUT a couple months later, I added a new user and found that
    a) switch user did not work
    b) the new user had Cinnamon set for a DM, but got gnome

Turns out I was running gdm, but should have been running lightdm - here was the fix - run as root (or add sudo in front of commands):
    dnf install lightdm slick-greeter
    dnf groupinstall 'Cinnamon Desktop'
    systemctl disable gdm
    systemctl enable lightdm
    reboot

You shouldn't have to reboot, just a "systemctl stop gdm; systemctl start lightdm".

I am sure you are right, but just because you are running one display manager, killing it and telling it to run another
I guess I would think reboot might just be a cleaner way to go.

Re: dnf system upgrade and cinnamon

Hi all. I faced by this problem but from other side: I was searching how to make my laptop achieve auto login, & I instructed in this forum to use "Login Window" from system setting, but there was no "Login Window" !!

Head developer of Cinnamon was here in this forum & ask me for following:

"when user upgrade Fedora Linux from version to version using DNF, then she/he need to perform an additional step after finishing the upgrade process. This additional (final) step is to run following command:

    sudo dnf install @cinnamon-desktop

the above command will add new features that will be missed if you do not run it. It, also, will REMOVE all old things that should be removed so as not to conflict with new features"

I performed "sudo dnf install @cinnamon-desktop" & then reboot. Every thing then became O.K

Re: dnf system upgrade and cinnamon

    I believe that
    dnf groupinstall 'Cinnamon Desktop'
    AND
    dnf install @cinnamon-desktop

Are identical commands in what they do.
