Allow user to add printers - Fedora 27

I want to allow certain users on my work station to add printers via the system/gnome printer dialog.

In order to do so, I've
    • added the user to the lp group
    • created a new group lpAdmin with the according user added to it
    • added above group to the SystemGroup within the /etc/cups/cups-files.conf
    • changed ownership of the /etc/cups content to lp

without any success. Gnome still shows the locked symbol and queries for the admin user/password in order to add printers.

Could someone please either explain to me how to achieve this, or even better, point me to a good documentation on how to enable certain users to add printers?

Little Roman, this looks like it might work -- but your users will probably have to go to the cups webpage (localhost:631) to do so:
    https://kernelmastery.com/enable-reg...nters-to-cups/

Note: to edit the cupsd.conf you have go towards the end of the file (approximately 87% of the file -- at least on my system)

Thanks, but please don't tell me this is the recommended solution.

it's a recommendation which may work but not an official solution if indeed there is one. this is a user community and not an official support channel. you may also want to investigate polkit and whether you can create a custom policy for CUPS
