    Fedora 27 Kernel 4.15 won't boot

    Hello,

i just built a small HTPC with Ryzen 5 2400G and installed Fedora 27 on it today as i read it has the best support for it.
It would boot fine with Kernel 4.13 but after an update the boot option with Kernel 4.15 will result on being stuck on boot on a line like "AMD-Vi" (i have to note the exact line and add it here later).

Kernel 4.13 has the same messages but will continue to boot.

Without Kernel 4.15 i cannot use the integrated graphics to its full potential :/.

    Any Ideas?

    Oh if it helps:
Mainboard is an AsRock AB 350 Gaming-ITX/ac with BIOS/UEFI Version 4.40.

EDIT: Hmm ... "journalctl -b -1" "-2" etc in terminal only shows boot logs with "Linux version 4.13.9-300.fc27.x86_64" as if kernel 4.15 doesn't boot at all :/.

I have exactly the same problem. I have a separate video card, I can boot well with kernel 4.13. I have not tried the integrated video card yet.

just noticed that the blinking cursor under the last line freezes on 4.15 boot. Nothing i can do from there on, except force shutdown with four seconds on power button.

Ok i was optimistic as there was an upgrade to kernel 4.15.4 today, but unfortunatly the problem persists -> boot freezes .

    Re: Fedora 27 Kernel 4.15 won't boot

I am experiencing this same problem on an Acer Aspire One netbook with AMD C50 processor. The boot hangs at a message about starting a job for a file system check and just sits there with a timer counting up with no limit. If I elect to start the 4.14.16 kernel, the boot completes as expected. After I post this, I am off to Redhat Bugzilla to see what I can find out about this.

    Similar issue here,
at first kernel 4.15 did not boot (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz processor and Intel Corporation Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520]) with the same error. Now, I suppose after a mesa update, boots but it goes to suspend mode while loading or just before loading DE.

I suspect the mesa update fixed something. My Acer Aspire One 722 now boots properly. That was strange though.

    Re: Fedora 27 Kernel 4.15 won't boot

Well i'm sorry to say it, but ... i solved my problem by switching to another distribution which uses in testing Kernel 4.16 and Mesa 17.3.6. No Xorg-config in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d so the kernel determines which gpu-driver is loaded automatically and it now works :

    inxi -F claims at least:
Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Vega [Radeon Vega 8 Mobile]
Display Server: N/A drivers: ati, amdgpu (unloaded: modesetting, radeon) tty size: 188x27
And i now got hardware acceleration .

I have now installed the last kernel, but I still have the same problem. Think I'll try another distro ...

The 4.15.6 kernel also freezes. Back to 4.14.16 and exclude kernels from update for the time being.

    Re: Fedora 27 Kernel 4.15 won't boot

Perhaps some of you will help this:
I still get these boot freezes sometimes but then i just have to try it again (sometimes up to five times) and it will boot at least. At least on my 4.16 Kernel and Mesa 17.3.6.
Also some say it should help to disable C6 state in the BIOS and adding "rcu_nocbs=0-7" as a kernel boot option for the 2400G as it has eight threads and "rcu_nocbs=0-3" for the 2200G as it has only 4 threads.

    Re: Fedora 27 Kernel 4.15 won't boot

Is everyone with these problems using similar hardware?
I have a AMD FX6300 with a (very old...) Nvidia 9800 GT graphics card, on a gigabyte 970 motherboard and kernel 4.15.6-300 boots normally.
Very interested in this thread, as I'm starting my Rizen build...
