    trying to get commands work with grub 2 bootable via pen drive

    I am trying to get commands work with grub 2 bootable via pen drive.

    I am not sure about UUID. Like where to find the numbers for it. 2nd part is almost successful but it didn't work. Please correct me if I am wrong on that parts. Thank you very much.

    Code:
    menuentry 'Fedora Live 27' {
    	insmod loopback
            search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root "****-****"

    	set isolabel="Fedora-WS-Live-27-1-6"
    	set isofile="/Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-27-1.6.iso"
    	loopback loop /Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-27-1.6.iso
    	#set root=(loop)
    	linux (loop)/isolinux/vmlinuz  root=live:LABEL=Fedora-WS-Live-27-1-6 iso-scan/filename=/Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-27-1.6.iso rootfstype=auto ro rd.live.image quiet
    	initrd (loop)/isolinux/initrd.img
    }

    Thank you for changing the title. Any ideas about grub 2 commands for Fedora bootable for pen drive?

    This menu entry works for me:
    Code:
    menuentry 'Fedora-Custom Loop-boot' {
    	insmod loopback
            search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root b4bedeef-468b-4acf-8c2e-f3e596003d3e

    	set isolabel="Fedora-xfce-27"
    	set isofile="Fedora-Custom-Loop/Fedora-Custom.iso"
    	loopback loop /$isofile
    	#set root=(loop)
    	linux (loop)/isolinux/vmlinuz  root=live:LABEL=$isolabel iso-scan/filename=$isofile rootfstype=auto ro rd.live.image quiet
    	initrd (loop)/isolinux/initrd.img
    }
    I followed the Archlinux wiki for multiboot usb drives and created a hybrid usb drive (works for uefi and mbr boot systems). Next to "--set-root" is the uuid for the partition with the isos (in mine it is /dev/sdb3). The "isolabel" is what you get when you run "sudo isoinfo /path/to/iso". Look for the name following "Volume id" (mine was "Fedora-xfce-27")

    Is that for installing? or live? How do you know about volume id? I tested (loop). For example: (loop)/isolinux/vmlinuz, (loop)/isolinux/initrd.img, and the others. (loop) didn't work.

    The menuentry is for both install and for fedora live. Isolabel must refer to the correct name of your iso. You get this name by running the isoinfo command pointing to your fedora workstation iso.

    Alright, I am going to check isoinfo out now. What about (loop) part?

    Yes, you need (loop) -- if you don't use "set root=(loop)" -- I commented this out. Also why are you using (hd0,4)? This would refer to your system's hard drive, not your USB drive (Are you trying to boot an iso that is on your hard drive?). Why don't you use a more up-to-date iso -- like Fedora 27?

    I finally got it work. I removed (hd0,4). But I saw acpi error and etc before booting Fedora. I thought that iso is up to date.

    Nice!! Fedora 23 Beta is old and being a Beta version, it probably has bugs. Go to "fedoraproject.org" and download Fedora 27 Workstation; you could look there for other spins (isos that use other desktop environments) -- just scroll down the page until you see "Want more Fedora options?" and click on one of the six icons (the mouse is for xfce, the K is for KDE, etc) -- I prefer Fedora xfce. Once downloaded, it is only a matter of a few minutes to replace your old iso and clean up the menuentry to reflect the new iso.

    Oh, I thought there are two separate commands for installing and live. First one with old linux (grub 2 command line) was found on Fedora page or somewhere. Did you have the same problem with Acpi error?

    Yes, on an older kernel. However, this didn't seem to affect my system. On the newest kernel this error-message is no longer present.

    I am using the current kernel from Workstation-Live-x86_64-27-1.6. It gave me acpi error.

    I believe the kernel on the downloaded fedora iso is not the latest and greatest. Once you install it on a hard drive, update fedora ("# dnf upgrade") and you should not get those kernel error-messages anymore.

    I am using live cd. I wanted to test it. Is there a way to get a file and replace with instead?
