"su -c yum remove root" yields an arrow and no other info

    Hi all,
Fedora Documentation shows how to remove software (with command given in title). This only gives me an arrow on left side of terminal that doesnt go away even when press enter or input
    Code:
    exit
    .
How do I return to root and how do I remove software.
    help would be appreciated.
    thanks

    This post is confusing.

Since current Fedora documentation should not be referring to "yum" can you post a link to the document, or tell us where to find it ?

ignore --> If it worked, I imagine removing a package called "root" would probably render the system unusable and require a re-install.

OK "root" is apparently some sort of numerical analysis package. (Really dumb choice of name.)

here is link to documentation I found through Google
    https://docs-old.fedoraproject.org/e..._software.html
So when the arrow shows I have to open a new terminal every time?

that documentation is way out of date. the 'arrow' is waiting for the root account password to be entered. even so, the command should be handed off to dnf to handle. but it's simpler to use the below along with your own user password. if there are any error messages post back with them for further assistance.

    Code:
    sudo dnf remove root
Whoever named that particular package root needs their head examined

    So dnf command replaced yum?

    Code:
Tmando is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.
Im guessing I have to configure sudo, any good resources for that?
    thanks

sudo is obviously not enabled if you are getting that message, unless you have created a new user since you installed. If you know your root password, just do a #su - then enter the root password. Type the dnf command above without sudo and it will work.
