Question ThinkPad Yoga 11e Touchpad not working

    Hi guys,

Just installed F27 and my trackpad isn't working.
Rebooting also doesn't work (shuts down and hangs on a blank screen).

Everything else works fine (including the touch screen).

I've tried logging in with X.org instead of Wayland with no change.

any ideas? I've seen quite a few people with similar issues with Lenovo laptops but have yet to find a solution.

Re: ThinkPad Yoga 11e Touchpad not working

I noticed this when doing a system-upgrade from 24 to 26 (dnf system-upgrade ...). I noticed that the FC26 initramfs also took about 30 seconds to detect I'm using luks and show the (plymouth?) graphical prompt for my LUKS password. This persisted across two later kernel updates to FC26.

Fortunately my FC24 kernel was still in the grub list. I noted all of the problems disappeared when I booted with the FC24 kernel, to include the 3:3:3:1 beep code when shutting down or rebooting with the FC26 kernel.

My short take away, the kernel has changed.

I recently system-upgrade'd to FC27 thinking it might better and it's not. The Synaptics touch pad doesn't work and LUKS takes a long time to prompt for a password. The FC27 upgrade purged my FC24 kernel. That's bad news, but I was able to navigate with an external mouse and/or the touch screen to pull down an FC24 ISO, extract what I needed and re-run mkinitrd/grub2-mkconfig.

    Here's what I did.
    (1) downloaded an FC24 live image (chose LXDE since that spin was smallest).
    (2) used losetup to mount each filesystem: .ISO file contains SQUASHFS.IMG contains LIVE.IMG contains /boot directory.
    (3) copied all the *fc24* files from that nested boot directory to /boot.
    (4) re-ran mkinitrd
    (5) re-ran grub2-mkconfig

And happiness was restored. For now. It's far from ideal. I don't know if there's any magic left in comparing the /boot/config-* versions to see if compiled options changed, or whether it had to do with the kernel marching forward and leaving the TP11e behind. Don't know at this point. I see there's a bug already filed, but no recent updates.

An easier procedure is here: https://michaela2kelsey.blogspot.com...a-11e-and.html
