Fedora 27: Kernel 4.14.14-300.fc27.x86_64 stops during booting.

    Hi there,

I have just installed kernel 4.14.14-300.fc27.x86_64 through "sudo dnf update". However, upon rebooting my notebook, it would stop at "Started OpenSSH server daemon...". Right now, I need to use prior version of the kernel, which is kernel 4.14.13-300.fc27.x86_64, to log into Cinnamon DE.

    Compaq Presario F763NR
    Nvidia 304.137

I bet I will have to wait for the newer Nvidia driver from the testing repo, and this issue would disappear

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I have just run "sudo dnf update", and I have just received kernel 4.14.16-300.fc27.x86_64. This newest kernel works.

    Thank you.

Re: Fedora 27: Kernel 4.14.14-300.fc27.x86_64 stops during booting.

    Hi there,

I have just received the new Nvidia driver "kmod-nvidia-304xx-304.137-3.fc27.x86_64.rpm" and Kernel 4.14.16-300.fc27.x86_64, through the system update.
However, during booting, the Kernel 4.14.14-300.fc27.x86_64 would still stuck.

    Kernel 4.14.18-300.fc27.x86_64 works.
    Kernel 4.14.16-300.fc27.x86_64 works.
Kernel 4.14.14-300.fc27.x86_64 would have problem during booting.

    Thank you.

moved to using Fedora where it will get more views. Also, why specifically do you need the old kernel to login to Cinnamon when you say the newer kernels work?

The newest kernel works great for me. I posted my question, because I want to learn how things work in Fedora.

    Thank you so much.

sometimes depending on your particular hardware setup you will find certain kernels carry regressions and won't work whereas newer builds fix that regression and do. I've only ever seen this a couple of times over the years in Linux across many distributions and they have been fixed relatively quickly.

The latest example being the DRM module for my AMD hardware. It is not working with 4.14 LTS kernels but works again with the newer 4.15 branch.

    Hi everyone,

As of this minute, I have just received another Nvidia driver through the system update, but, this time, it is the akmod one. All of the kernels above work now.

    Thanks again.
