Cannot update Intel cpu microcode, error message: "Permission denied"

Hi, i'm running fedora 27 x64 with latest updates applied.

    Code:
    [dave ~]$ uname -r
    4.14.11-300.fc27.x86_64
I tried following this guide to update my cpu microcode, my cpu is Intel core i5-560m: https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/instal...irmware-linux/

    commands i have done:

    Code:
    [dave~]$ dmesg | grep microcode
    [ 0.000000] microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0x4, date = 2013-06-28
    [ 0.777979] microcode: sig=0x20655, pf=0x10, revision=0x4
    [ 0.778055] microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.2.
    the latest microcode_ctl is installed:
    Code:
    [dave~]$ sudo yum install linux-firmware microcode_ctl
    [sudo] password for dave:
Last metadata expiration check: 1:35:06 ago on Thu 11 Jan 2018 15:32:43 GMT.
Package linux-firmware-20171215-82.git2451bb22.fc27.noarch is already installed, skipping.
Package microcode_ctl-2:2.1-20.fc27.x86_64 is already installed, skipping.
    Dependencies resolved.
    Nothing to do.
    Complete!
on the link that i provided at the top of the page if you scroll down halfway you will see this title: How to install Intel processor microcode blob for Linux (20180108 release)

i followed all those instructions until this part where i get a permission denied error:

    Code:
    [dave~]$ echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/microcode/reload
    bash: /sys/devices/system/cpu/microcode/reload: Permission denied
here is a link to the micro update .tgz file: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...code-Data-File

my processor (core i5-560m) is in the supported list.

I am a very beginner linux user so please talk to me like i'm 5 years old with any commands i might need to do. Thanks

You need to be root to do that last echo command. Type su - followed by the enter key, then enter the root password. Then the echo command will work.

    That's Ubuntuese. Try:
