How to remove Nautilus.. completely.. kill it dead in all it's evocations F27

Hi, is there a way to get rid of that horrific file manager in F27? Many apps call it as some kind of system file dialog which must be defined somewhere, but I have not managed to put a stake through it's cold, dark heart.

I think Nautilus is an integral part of Gnome 3, you cannot remove it. Why not to switch to another, more sane environment like Mate, XFCE, Cinnamon, etc?

I have tried those other environments... Cinnamon was very crashy, and some of the desktop features/layouts I had found productive weren't available or didn't work as I expected in Mate/XFCE the last I used them. I was pretty happy with Gnome 2.x, but 3.x ... SMH...

    [root@nova ~]# which nautilus
    /usr/bin/which: no nautilus in (/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin)

however, I am on LXDE at the moment, until the PolKit in Xfce issue gets resolved (too many odd popups which end up hiding below other windows and destroy functionality).

Probably caused by the open source graphics drivers as I don't see crashes here that often, less than once a month (using nouveau I would be lucky if the session lasted 20 minutes without crashing).

    Code:

Nope, I've blacklisted nouveau since it was nouveau. I am running Nvidia proprietary drivers.

    Code:
    inxi -GSC

Mate is direct continuation of Gnome 2. If you were happy with the latter what's not to like in the former?
