Question Fedora 27, rtl8723be not working

    Hello Fedorians,

I have a Lenovo G50-80 with rtl8723be wifi card. The problem is that it is not working.
    dmesg output : https://paste.fedoraproject.org/past...M8lQvn0HkkZeTg
(I have attached plus an other wifi dongle with driver rtl8192cu but it doesn't work ether)

I also tried to install the driver from https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new but even if there wasn't a trace in dmesg, it didn't work. Actually, in an issue, the developer said that the driver is the same in the recent kernels, so 1. there is no need to install it from that github repo and 2. it should work out of the box. The developer suggested to the user that asked, to ask for help here.

In any way, please tell me if I can provide any more info, and if there is anything I can do.

    rtl8723be | Fedora 27 | kernel: 4.14.18-300.fc27.x86_64

    Hello Fedorians,

I have written before here about this issue but there are more info that have come up.
On a virtual machine with Fedora 27 x64 and kernel 4.14.18-300.fc27.x86_64, with PCI PassThrough of the pci wifi module, after installing the driver from lwfinger/rtlwifi_new repository, everything worked as expected.

    "lspci"
    Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Host Bridge -OPI (rev 09)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 5500 (rev 09)
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Audio Controller (rev 09)
00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP USB xHCI Controller (rev 03)
00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP MEI Controller #1 (rev 03)

00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #3 (rev e3)
00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #4 (rev e3)

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 10)
03:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8723BE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter
    04:00.0 Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Sun XT [Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M / R5 M330 / M430 / R7 M520] (rev 83)

The steps to install this driver are the following
    Code:
    git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
    cd rtlwifi_new
    sudo make install
    sudo modprobe -r rtl8723be
    sudo modprobe rtl8723be

Now I reinstalled Fedora 27 (keeping /home partition from the previous installation) and by installing the same driver, the module didn't work. It actually came with an error at the step of "modprobe rtl8723b":
    Code:
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'rtl8723be': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
    dmesg:
    Code:
    [...]
    [ 648.909536] rtl_pci: loading out-of-tree module taints kernel.
[ 648.909577] rtl_pci: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel
    [ 648.909666] rtl_pci: Unknown symbol rtl_debug_add_one (err 0)
    [ 648.909937] rtl_pci: Unknown symbol rtl_dbgp_flag_init (err 0)
    [ 648.910177] rtl_pci: Unknown symbol rtl_debug_remove_one (err 0)
The developer of this driver said that:
In the extended branch case, all three of the missing symbols are located in the module rtl_pci. I suspect that you had an old version loaded.
How is it possible to have an old version of "rtl_pci" and if so, how did it work on the VM?
Is it possible the problem to be that the kernel is tainted (which I don't think so)? That warning isn't only to note that an unsigned driver is being loaded? Note that I have secure boot disabled in the UEFI Bios.

The conversation on Github regarding this issue is at: https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new/issues/324
Any ideas are welcome. Please feel free to ask me to provide more info.
