Fedora 27 - laptop - freezes for few seconds after suspend

    Acer Aspire Core i7 / 16Gb RAM / 1Tb SSD

I have recently upgraded to 27 from 26 and now encounter a strange problem: after opening the lid and logging in, I have control for about 5 seconds, then the display becomes erratic (title bars disappear from windows and the 'top' bar [name escapes me for the moment] disappears) and I lose control for about 15 seconds. During this time, I know the system is active because I hear the alerts as mail is read; also the disk led stays lit (indicates the disk is thrashing?).

Usually everything comes good at that point, but sometimes it crashes my session and I have to log on again.

None of this was happening under 26, so I am reasonably sure it is not my equipment.

I have not installed any extra software since the upgrade.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, as it is slowly driving me nuts.

    Kind regards,
    Doug

That would be consistent with what I am observing.

By the way, I still see this behaviour when I suspend/resume with no applications running, just an empty desktop, if that is of any use in diagnosis. I had thought it might have been something like a Java application (JStock) or Virtual Machine Manager not playing well, but that does not seem to be the case.

It turned out to be a Gnome shell extension. I am not certain which one was causing the crash, so I won't mention any names. With all extensions turned off, the computer has returned to stability (famous last words ...).
