    Re: linux mint 18.3 released

KDE has been abandoned by Linux Mint officially. They announced that in an earlier blog post. Probably because they didn't really need to modify anything with the DE as it's already as polished these days as it can be.

I'm waiting for the ubuntu 18.04 LTS based versions before I look at Mint again or LMDE3 which they are still working on in the background.

Yep, 18.3 will be the last version of KDE. The boss was updated to 18.3 Cinnamon this morning. No problems so far...

I updated to 18.3 two nights ago from 18.2 on one of our computers. No problem. Didn't expect any. Running Cinnamon. On the KDE thing. I understand it will still be in the repository, just no specific spin for it.

    Re: linux mint 18.3 released

Yes, that's the crux of it. I have used community maintained ISO for years across several distributions, so in my mind it's no major issue. Others will not take kindly to the news though. I've seen people posting 'I'm a refugee from Mint because KDE is no longer supported' being posted already in the Manjaro forum.

Stupid thing is, they clearly don't realise pretty much the same team of maintainers are carrying on with KDE as before for Linux Mint. So no real change would be noticeable if they stuck with it

If they want an easy to use KDE version then go with Kubuntu or Neon! After all, Mint KDE is based on Kubuntu but with Mint artwork!

and KDE Neon is Kubuntu but a newer build of KDE Plasma, Framework and apps. I tried Neon before choosing Manjaro. Manjaro uses the same releases as Neon and is also exceedingly easy to use. I don't foresee them getting stuck as they are a reasonably experienced Linux user which made it all the more surprising they jumped ship because of this minor status change.

    Re: linux mint 18.3 released

So far so good. No complaints from the boss. It seems to be running like a champ. I spent some time on it today installing/removing themes and getting rid of old kernels and going through the settings for her. Two kernels are enough, there were four! That's freed up some space.
