Things to do in Fedora 27 Cinnamon.

    Hi,

I am coming back to use Fedora 27 after 6 years, and I like Fedora 27 Cinnamon a lot However, there used to be "Set-Up Guides" in the form of Word documents posted here, but they do not seem to be here any more. Back then was so convenient to just follow such Word documents.

    https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showt...-Set-Up-Guides

I wonder if anyone still have something like that

    Thank you in advance.

I don't get any free time to write documents, TBH I consider it the users job to write them if they want them.
This mint guide has a basic cinnamon section.

that and the fact there are several 'things to do after installing X desktop on Y distribution' threads on the internet. the best way is to discover for yourself what is new and what can be done. I'm clearly behind with some changes since F26 like which greeter is now used so will be revisiting it myself.

one of the most commonly recommended things to do after installing Fedora Workstation? install Cinnamon

I decided to use slick-greeter for cinnamon spin for several reasons

    1. lightdm-gtk is starting to show it's age in looks and code
    2. slick-greeter is easy to theme
    3. It's hidpi capable
    4. It has a fully featured gui for setup
    5. Upstream doesn't use launchpad

Fedora Workstation is poorly named as it implies it useful for work, my production is about 40% slower on gnome.
IMO gnome-shell would make a great DE for Tablets, but it's useless for desktop/workstation use.

thanks for the info, I agree about Workstation entirely. I haven't used Fedora Cinnamon since F25 and the last standard and custom ISOs for F26 MATE both of which I built from kickstarts in August 2017 still used lightdm as greeter

Re: Things to do in Fedora 27 Cinnamon.

How do you install gsteamer with MP3 support? I heard Fedora is able to support MP3 without the third party now? The command below, which I found by searching the internet would miss this "MP3 with Gsteamer" correct?

    $sudo dnf install gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-extras gstreamer-plugins-bad-nonfree gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-ffmpeg gstreamer1-libav gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-extras gstreamer1-plugins-bad-freeworld gstreamer1-plugins-base-tools gstreamer1-plugins-good-extras gstreamer1-plugins-ugly gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free gstreamer1-plugins-good gstreamer1-plugins-base gstreamer1

The reason that I asked is someone here might have the best installation guide, which works best for Fedora 27. There are so many new feature now, and by searching the internet alone would not make the installation complete perfectly.
