My first experience with KDE Plazma and Fedora 27

I installed KDE onto a spare drive. It took me a while to feel my way around. I did discover that it is highly configurable. In fact, one window option is a layout similar to Gnome's.

The favourites are listed on the open window with larage icons, the open applications too the right of that list, and a menu system on the right (in column order.
    A very nice presentation.
I was able to watch youtube, but was not able to play mp4's. There was no message about missing codecs.

My criticism is of me. I am having to learn the mindset of KDE'ers and be able to just click, click arrive at the application I wanted to use.

Bottom line. Its a very interesting user interface, not one to shy away from.

Re: My first experience with KDE Plazma and Fedora 27

Leslie, just yesterday I found (and watched) this video from YouTube. -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qatfGIq_LQs entitled "Ubuntu 18.04 Should Use KDE Plasma". In it, the narrator shows how many of Gnome's features are already available or easily configured in KDE.

Gnome and Unity weren't my thing, so I've always tended to use KDE facilities as I needed and didn't try to make it act like another desktop environment. I AM a big fan of krunner, though. But there were a number of pretty cool features that I just wasn't aware of presented in the video, and you may see some things you'd like to try.

Re: My first experience with KDE Plazma and Fedora 27

Thanks for the links. I watched both sessions.
If I compare KDE to Gnome, it's much like a standard multi-year vehicle to an automatic transmission one.

In defense of Gnome, it's agreeably less configurable, and thus less easy to cause problems for the non-power user. I have KDE from the Fedora 27 Spin.

For a while I had Manjaro KDE, and I am thinking of wiping Fed KDE and returning to the former. Fedora's KDE does not appear as up to date or as well maintained as is the Manjaro version.
Then again, what can I know about KDE after some two weeks of part-time use.
