    Patching the TBS proprietary driver

    Hi all,

    This is actually quite a basic question about how to apply a patch to a directory, but it's probably best posted here

    I'm running a TBS 6205 video card on Fedora 26 x86_64

    After upgrading Fedora 26, I've had some problems getting the TBS proprietary drivers to compile in kernel 4.12.x

    After some searching I came across this thread, the top post of which contains a patch to fix the problem in archlinux https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/tbs-dvb-drivers/

    Applying the changes fixes the problem, and I'm hoping to post this information on the linuxtv website, however the patch changes many files and I'm not sure how to apply it using "patch" - I made the changes it requests manually, but it changes a lot of files, and it's quite laborious.

    How can this patch be applied using the patch command?

    Many thanks.

    Re: Patching the TBS proprietary driver

    Go to the root directory that contains linux/, from the Arch page it is `linux-tbs-drivers`

    Code:
    $ cd linux-tbs-drivers
    Apply the patch with

    Code:
    $ patch -p1 < /path/to/patch.diff
    `-p1` tells patch to strip the leading directory so the path effectively becomes `linux/drivers/media...`. This should also be the default, so leaving it out should achieve the same. This way directory containing the sources can be named with a different name.
