fedora 26 vncserver with black screen

I have not found an answer anywhere else.

From what I can tell, vncserver failes when started from 'systemctl' but works when started from the command line.

I did both and checked gnome-session-binary:

    emike 1932 1 0 03:22 ? 00:00:00 /usr/libexec/gnome-session-binary
    emike 2684 1 0 03:24 pts/0 00:00:00 /usr/libexec/gnome-session-binary

The one on pts/0 was started from the command line. The other from systemctl.

Under the one started from the command line, there is a 'gnome-shell'. Not under the other.
Also, a diff of the log files (:1 systemctl and :2 command line) the only noteable difference is:

Failed to import environment: Process org.freedesktop.systemd1 exited with status 1

I can assume that this is because there is no controlling tty. This is definitely a bug.
I don't yet know of a workaround. Any ideas?

    Disappointed again with no replies.

Had two problems. The main one (found by web searches) was fixed by
    adding this line:

    Environment=XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11

    To

    /lib/systemd/system/vncserver@*.service

user the [Service] group, and restarting

The other was a permissions problem, I think it was in /run/user/..., but I don't
    remember.

Shot in the dark here - I think you have to be logged in as a valid User on the machine from which you attempting to connect. I suspect the userid gets passed to the remote for validation. Also, on my CentOS system, that user must be logged in also on that same 'target'.

Additionally, Sharing has to be enabled on the target (for that user).

There was one other issue I had that doesn't currently come to mind. Hmm. Hopefully, this is of some help.
    Change - the only constant.
