    The Terry Pratchett Method of Data destruction

    Terry Pratchett wanted his unpublished works destroyed by a Steam Roller after his death. Unfortunately, the HDD was stronger than anticipated and wasn't damaged that much. so they pulverised it

    while there are other methods of data destruction, this is clearly more fun

    I think I can understand why he would do that - especially if he were beginning to doubt his own mind.

    However, according to Wikipedia he was using computers since the ZX81, so it does seem a bit unlikely that he would keep all of his work on a single drive with no backups.

    yes i though the same. i believe this was more a ceremonial trashing of one drive to honour his request than a total destruction of his work
